This is a fabulous early Codd Neck bottle by Niagara with the marble I. The neck. The bottle was made for the Barnett & Foster Makers, London, England.
In 1862 Hiram Codd introduced a design featuring a glass marble to keep it airtight. The Codd-neck bottle enclosed a marble and a rubber washer in the neck. The pressure of the gas in the bottle forced a the marble against the washer sealing in the carbonation.
The use of these bottles went out of general use in the 1930’s.
The bottle still contains the marble and the imprint of the maker is legible. I do not know the age of this Codd neck bottle, but it is an antique.

9 x 2 1/2 inch’s at base
